X-Rays are Here to Stay

By Justin boyington

X-Rays are the newest machines in USD 500. The X-Ray machines are used to see what is inside the book bags, and purses. The Metal detectors are used for a student to walk through to detect if we have cell phones, iPods, or contriband.

Girls to the left to the left to the left. . .
This year when entering the building, the girls are to go to the left door, and boys are to go to the right door.  Ms. Barnes explained the reason the girls have their own side is because female staff can check their bags more thoroughly. This is so the girls won’t feel the sense of intrusion that having a male teacher examining their personal items.  Secondly, this keeps down the number of kids trying to get into one door and helps the school to manager the crowds better.

Security Upgrade
The metal detectors have made a huge difference at Wyandotte High School.  They have found cell phones, lighters and belt buckles in their searches. And it is hard to measure success by the fact that no weapons have been found.  Dose it mean that the system is so good that anyone thinking to bring a dangerous item to school has not  attempted to do so or has some one already done it and gotten away with it?  This is the question that the school district confronts every school day and as of yet, metal detectors are the best way to answer it.
